An extra day, what to do?  Work, since it does not fall on a weekend, for one.

My son is deconstructing a house today, which is a shame.  This house was built in the early 1900’s and moved to an area of our city called Promise Land.  The house was floated over from an outer bank that had been devastated too many times by storms.  The wood inside the house is heart pine of the type not seen any more.  The city would not grant more than 50% of the value to upgrade to current codes and at that point it become more economical to tear it down.  I hurt for the history that the house contained being placed in the dump truck by the scooper full.  The family that owned the house no longer lives in the area and my son had bought it as an investment in the land.  By 5 or so this afternoon, the lot will be clear and there will be no evidence of families having been born and lived and laughed and loved and cried in that enclosed space for many generations.  “Ain’t” progress great?

I must admit to a feeling of pride as I watched Son Who Builds handle the boom with such control and ease.  I have trouble with an Etch-A-Sketch.
